Should I choose seamless or cut-and-sew construction for my activewear line?

2026-10-12

The better construction method depends on your product concept, design requirements, order quantity and target customer. Seamless activewear is knitted directly into shaped structures using specialized machines such as Santoni machines, allowing features such as body contouring, rib zones, compression areas and reduced seams. It is particularly suitable for shaping, gym and performance-oriented styles.

Cut-and-sew activewear starts with finished fabric that is cut into individual pattern pieces and sewn together. This provides greater flexibility for silhouettes, panel lines, pockets, color blocking, garment structure and other design details, and can be more suitable for smaller custom runs.

The two methods involve different development and production considerations. Seamless styles with custom yarn colors, for example, may require higher MOQs because of yarn and machine setup requirements. We can help evaluate the two approaches based on the desired fit, appearance, functionality, MOQ and production plan rather than treating one construction method as universally better.
